Budgets

A monthly budget for each category, and an alert before you go over

You decide how much groceries, utilities or going out may take in a month. Llegamos shows how far along you are and alerts you at 80% and 100%. It never stops you: it only tells you how the month is going.

The sample month’s budgets, as the summary shows them.

01

What a budget is for

Knowing where your money goes helps, but it comes late: you find out at the end of the month. With a budget you see it while it happens. If groceries are at 85% on the 20th, you know to slow down, or that this month will go over and you will cover it from somewhere else.

In Llegamos every monthly bill and every expense has a category. A budget counts what the month takes in it: the month’s bills you did not skip, and the expenses, including those paid from a pocket.

02

How it works

  1. Pick the category

In Settings, under Categories, open a category’s menu and tap “Monthly budget”.

  2. Set how much, in each currency

One amount per currency of the group: for instance $ 22,000 for groceries and, if you pay some of it in dollars, one in dollars too. Empty means no budget in that currency.

  3. See how you are doing in the summary

The “Budgets” section shows each one with its bar: green, amber from 80% and red from 100%, with what is left or by how much you went over.

  4. Get an alert

When a category reaches 80% and when it reaches 100%, once a month, during the day. Everyone in the group with alerts on gets it.

03

An example with the sample month

September, with three budgets (example)
Utilities: $ 8,201 of $ 8,000
102%
Food: $ 19,600 of $ 22,000
89%
Health: $ 5,450 of $ 8,000
68%

Utilities went $ 201 over and Food already alerted at 80%. Health is fine.

The figures are those of the sample month on the home page: electricity, water, internet and phones under Utilities; the supermarket and the butcher under Food.

04

In more than one currency

A budget is always in one currency, because Llegamos never adds two currencies together. If a category has amounts in two, set a budget for each. Even when you view the summary “all together” in one currency, each budget reads in its own. More in multiple currencies.

05

The alerts

  • At 80% and 100%, once per category and month. If you jump from under 80% to over 100%, you get one alert: that you went over.
  • During the day: between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. in the group’s timezone. Nobody is woken up by a budget.
  • To the whole group: the budget belongs to the household, so everyone with budget alerts on gets it. Turn them off in your profile.
  • On your phone or computer, free. With Pro and email on, by email too.
  • If you log an expense through the WhatsApp assistant and it takes the category to 80% or more, the reply says so right there.

06

What it does not do

  • It does not stop you: you can log everything you need and go past 100%. A budget informs, it never blocks.
  • It does not connect to your bank: it counts what you log in Llegamos.
  • It does not change month to month: the budget you set holds for every month until you change it.
  • It does not alert again if the month drops and climbs back: each alert arrives once a month.

Frequently asked questions

Are budgets free?

Yes. Budgets and alerts on your phone or computer are part of the free plan. Email alerts come with Pro.

What happens if I go over?

Nothing is blocked. The bar turns red and says by how much you went over, and you get one alert that month.

Does what I paid from a pocket count?

Yes. A budget measures how much goes into that category, wherever the money came from.

Can I have a budget in dollars?

Yes, one per currency of the group. A budget in pesos only counts what is logged in pesos, and one in dollars what is logged in dollars.
